Skin Boosters & Bioremodelling
Polynucleotides for skin quality
Polynucleotides are purified fragments of DNA — most products derive them from salmon or trout — that are injected into the skin to support its own repair processes. They do not add volume and they are not fillers.
They are particularly useful in areas where filler is a poor choice: thin, crepey skin under the eyes, the neck, and skin that has been damaged by sun or acne.
Who it suits
It suits thin or crepey under-eye skin, dull or uneven texture, sun-damaged skin, some acne scarring, and anyone who wants improvement without any change in facial shape.
It is not suitable if you have a fish allergy. It will not fill a hollow, lift a fold, or produce a fast result — and we will say so at consultation rather than after you have paid for a course.
The treatment protocol
Three sessions, roughly three weeks apart, then maintenance every six to nine months.
Each session takes about twenty minutes. There is short-lived swelling at the injection points and occasional bruising, particularly under the eyes. Most people are presentable the next day.
What it costs
£200 per session. A full initial course of three is £600. Maintenance sessions are £200.
Profhilo and polynucleotides side by side
Profhilo
- Areas
- The lower face, neck, décolletage or hands.
- Under the eyes
- No. It is not placed directly under the eyes.
- The course
- Two sessions, four weeks apart, about fifteen minutes each.
- When to judge it
- Six to eight weeks after the second session. Very little happens in the first two weeks.
- Maintenance
- One session about every six months. Some people go longer.
- Price
- £200 a session, the same on the neck, décolletage or hands as on the face. £400 for the course.
- The first year
- £600. The course, then one maintenance session about six months later.
Polynucleotides
- Areas
- The face and neck.
- Under the eyes
- Yes, for thin or crepey skin. They will not fill a hollow or remove a shadow caused by one.
- The course
- Three sessions, about three weeks apart, about twenty minutes each.
- When to judge it
- Once the course is finished. They work slowly, and will not give a fast result.
- Maintenance
- One session every six to nine months.
- Price
- £200 a session. £600 for the course.
- The first year
- £800. The course, then one maintenance session six to nine months later.
The first-year figures are the session prices added up. If you cannot tell which you need, or whether you need either, that is what the consultation is for.
Common questions
What are polynucleotides made from?
Purified DNA fragments, most commonly derived from salmon or trout and processed to remove anything that could trigger an immune response. If you have a fish allergy, tell us — this treatment is not suitable for you.
Polynucleotides or Profhilo?
Profhilo for overall hydration, firmness and laxity across the cheeks, neck or hands. Polynucleotides for skin quality and texture, and for thin crepey areas including under the eyes where Profhilo is not appropriate. They are often used together rather than instead of each other.
Can I have them under my eyes?
Yes, and this is one of the areas where they are most useful — particularly for someone who has been told they are not suitable for tear trough filler. They will not remove a shadow caused by hollowing, but they improve the quality and thickness of the skin over it.
How many polynucleotide sessions will I need?
Three, about three weeks apart, then one maintenance session every six to nine months. Each session takes about twenty minutes.
When will I see a difference?
Slowly. Polynucleotides work gradually over the course, so judge them once it is finished rather than between sessions. If you want a fast result, this is the wrong treatment, and we will say so.
What does the first year of polynucleotides cost?
£800. That is £600 for the course of three, then one £200 maintenance session six to nine months later: the session price added up.
Will I bruise?
You might, particularly under the eyes. There is short-lived swelling at the injection points, and most people are presentable the next day.
Who will treat me?
Alicia Marsland, the clinic's nurse prescriber. Injectable treatments are with her, every session.
