Dermal Fillers
Lip fillers in Lincolnshire
Most people who come to us for lip filler are not trying to have noticeably bigger lips. They want the shape they had five years ago, or a top lip that no longer disappears when they smile, or an edge that has softened.
That is a different job from the one social media sells, and it takes less product than people expect. Half a millilitre, well placed, changes more than most people imagine.
What lip filler does well — and what it doesn't
It works well for:
- restoring volume lost with age
- correcting mild asymmetry
- defining a vermillion border that has blurred
- improving a lip that rolls inward when you smile
- and balancing a top and bottom lip that are out of proportion
It works less well for:
- deep vertical smoker's lines, which need skin treatment rather than volume
- a heavy or long upper lip, where filler makes the problem worse
- and gum show when smiling, which is not a volume problem at all.
If you have had filler elsewhere and it has migrated above the lip border, we will usually recommend dissolving and starting again rather than adding more.
What happens on the day
Assessment
We look at your lips at rest and when you smile, at your chin and lower face, and at what you have had done before. Photographs are taken from fixed angles.
Plan
We agree how much product, where, and what the result should look like. If we think the answer is less than you asked for, or nothing at all, this is where we say so.
Numbing
Topical anaesthetic for about twenty minutes. The filler itself also contains lidocaine.
Treatment
Ten to fifteen minutes. You will sit up and look in a mirror partway through.
Aftercare
Written instructions, an ice pack, and a direct number to call if you are worried about anything.
Review at two weeks
Included, not charged for.
How long it lasts
Six to twelve months for most people. Lips move constantly and sit in an area with a rich blood supply, so filler breaks down faster here than almost anywhere else on the face.
It goes faster if you are young, if you exercise a lot, or if your metabolism is quick — none of which is a fault in the product. You will notice it fading gradually rather than disappearing.
Swelling peaks at 24 to 48 hours and can be significant. The lips you see on day two are not the result. Judge it at two weeks.
What it costs
From £190 for 0.5ml. Larger volumes are priced at your consultation, before anything is done.
If filler ever needs dissolving, that is discussed at a consultation rather than priced here, because the product used to dissolve it is a prescription-only medicine.
The two-week review is included.

Common questions
How long do lip fillers last?
Six to twelve months for most people. Lips move constantly and have a rich blood supply, so filler breaks down faster here than anywhere else on the face. If you are young, exercise a lot or have a quick metabolism, expect the shorter end of that range.
How much filler will I need?
Most first treatments use 0.5ml. That is enough to make a real difference to shape and definition without anyone being able to tell. We would rather do less and see you again than do too much and dissolve it.
How swollen will I be?
Noticeably, for two to three days. Swelling peaks at 24 to 48 hours and can be significant, particularly on a first treatment. The lips you see on day two are not the result — judge it at two weeks.
Can I have lip filler dissolved?
Yes. Hyaluronidase dissolves hyaluronic acid filler and we hold it on site. It requires an allergy test beforehand and a separate appointment. If you have had migrated filler placed elsewhere, dissolving and starting again is often the right answer.
Will my lips go saggy when it wears off?
No. This is a persistent myth. Filler in the volumes used for lips does not stretch the tissue permanently, and lips return to how they were as it breaks down — which will feel like a change, because you will have got used to the treated version.
I'm nervous about looking overdone.
So are we. Most of the results people dislike come from too much product, product placed above the lip border, or repeated treatment without ever letting the previous filler go. We start conservatively, review at two weeks, and will tell you when to stop.
Does lip filler hurt?
Less than most people expect, though the lips are the most sensitive part of the face. Numbing cream goes on for about twenty minutes before we start, and the treatment itself takes ten to fifteen minutes.
Can lip filler move?
It can, when too much is used, when it is placed above the lip line, or when it is layered up over years. That is why we start small and check at two weeks. If you have had filler elsewhere that has moved, tell us at your consultation, and we will look at it before anything new goes in.
What are the risks of lip filler?
Bruising, swelling and tenderness are common. Lumps or unevenness can happen, and we check for them at your review. Rarely, filler can block a blood vessel, which can damage the skin and, very rarely, affect sight. Spotting that early and acting at once is what changes the outcome. We follow a written emergency protocol, and we go through every risk with you before you agree to anything.
Who will treat me?
Alicia Marsland, the clinic's nurse prescriber. She carries out every filler consultation, treatment and review herself, so the person who assesses you is the person who treats you.
Is there an age limit for lip filler?
Yes. We do not treat anyone under 18, and in England it is against the law to give anyone under 18 filler for cosmetic reasons.
