Under-eye brightening
Dark circles have four different causes and they need four different answers. Working out which one you have is most of the job, and it is why treatments bought online so rarely help.
Which kind do you have?
Pigmentation
Genuine brown discolouration in the skin, most common in olive and darker skin tones and often familial. Responds to pigment-targeted treatment and rigorous sun protection. Slow, but real.
Vascular
A blue or purple tone from vessels showing through thin skin. Improves with treatments that thicken the skin. Filler makes this worse, not better.
Hollowing
A shadow cast by a groove rather than a colour in the skin. This is the one that responds to filler — assuming you are suitable.
Skin thinness
Crepey, translucent skin that lets everything underneath show through. Responds best to polynucleotides and skin quality treatment.
Pull the skin taut beside your eye and look in the mirror. If the darkness stays, it is pigment. If it disappears, it is shadow.
What nothing will fix
If your under-eyes look worse when you are tired, dehydrated or have slept badly, that is not a treatable condition — that is a face. Treatment can improve your baseline. It cannot hold it steady through a bad week.
What it costs
From £150. The approach depends entirely on which cause we identify, so we would rather assess you before quoting.
