Fat dissolving injections
Fat dissolving injections break down the membrane of fat cells in a small, defined area so the contents are cleared by the body. They are used for pockets that do not respond to diet or exercise — most commonly under the chin.
They are not a weight loss treatment, they are not a substitute for one, and they will not work well on someone whose weight is actively changing.
Who it suits
It suits a small, discrete pocket of fat in someone at a stable weight with reasonable skin elasticity — under the chin, at the jowl, or a small area on the body.
It does not suit generalised weight concerns, large volumes, or anyone whose looseness under the chin is skin laxity rather than fat. Filling in around a jawline that has lost its bony edge is also a different problem, and one that jawline filler addresses better.
The treatment protocol
Two to four sessions, six to eight weeks apart, depending on the area and how you respond. Results build gradually across the course rather than appearing after the first session.
What it costs
From £120 per session. Most areas need two to four, so from £240 for a course. We will give you a realistic total at consultation.
Common questions
Is fat dissolving a way to lose weight?
No. It treats a small, defined pocket of fat that has not responded to diet or exercise. It is not a weight-loss treatment or a substitute for one, and it does not work well while your weight is still changing.
Will it work on my double chin?
That depends on what is causing it. A small pocket of fat, in someone at a stable weight with reasonable skin elasticity, may respond. Looseness that is skin rather than fat will not, and if the jawline has lost its edge, jawline filler addresses that better. Which of these you have is assessed face to face at your consultation.
How much swelling will there be?
A lot, compared with most treatments. Under the chin it can be pronounced for four to seven days and visible for up to two weeks, sometimes with bruising and tenderness. Plan around it, and do not book it in the month before a wedding.
How soon will I see a result?
Gradually. Results build across a course rather than appearing after the first session, and the swelling has to settle before you can judge anything.
Who is it not suitable for?
Anyone with a general weight concern, a large area to treat, a weight that is still changing, or looseness under the chin that is skin rather than fat. If it is not right for you, you will be told at your consultation, along with what would help instead.
